Electric Forest 2018

Festival guide

Not one but two weekends of woodland magic await at this year's Electric Forest, bringing exciting, cosmic sounds to Michigan's Rothbury. We're focusing on the second weekend with our guide, which sees EDM alongside eclectic jazz and a whole lot of exquisite synth-lines. Taking place from June 28 - July 1, there's plenty going on that's worth checking out - you can explore the full line-up here, plus check out our selection of acts below.

    Sons Of Kemet

We have Kamasi Washington, the UK has Shabaka Hutchings: the saxophonist / bandleader making waves. Sons of Kemet is perhaps the most notable of his projects, and their latest album Your Queen Is A Reptile was bursting at the seams with rich, cosmic yet chaotic sounds. London's jazz scene is having a moment right now, and these guys are at the forefront of that: get to their show to find out why.

    Chromeo

If you're looking for squelchy, kitschy synth-laden bangers, the Chromeo party is the party for you this weekend. The Canadian duo have been churning out their colourful disco-funk-tinged tunes for over a decade now, and their longevity is testament to just how good they are. Shuffling beats and dancefloor heat all topped with sweet vocals, we reckon this might be one of the funnest shows of the weekend.

    !!!

Spangly, sparkly but somehow organic and low-key dance music is the name of the game when it comes to !!! (you say it "chk! chk! chk!", FYI). If you're looking for a boogie that's a little more left-field this weekend, you'll want to get to the set from these alternative Californians. Robotic vocals and lush sonics that come together to form what's been described as "dance-punk" this should be dreamy.
