7digital What we said: Considering the project emerged after producer Dom Ruckspin was asked to perform a “live dubstep kind of thing” for a children's’ charity, it would be an understatement to say that the success of Submotion Orchestra has exceeded all expectations. In 2009, the Leeds-locals provided a tranquil switch-up to the aggression of prevailing dubstep dons Mala and Coki, and seven albums later their stripped-back electronica‘s blossomed into a kaleidoscopic palette of jazz, dub and ambient soundscapes. Subtler than the sun-soaked heights of ‘Finest Hour’ or ‘Bring Back The Wolf’, Colour Theory sees vocalist Ruby Wood teaming up with Andrew Ashong on the pensive ‘Needs’, as the band channel the kind of contemplative melancholia that’ll have fans of The xxeager to catch them on this year’s festival circuit.
