7digital What we said: With his debut, 2015’s Coming Home, Leon Bridges seemingly marked himself out as a modern-day soulman. It was a pleasant record that found him nominated for two Grammys - and yet some critics asserted that it failed to really mark the Texan out as more than a mere imitator. With album two, this is not an issue: Bridges has acknowledged the limitations of his first LP and - in joining forces with pop architect Ricky Reed - his sound soars with a new vitality. There are the magical, falsetto-led ballads like ‘Bet Ain’t Worth the Hand’, and the surprisingly funky strut of tracks like ‘Bad Bad News’ and ‘If It Feels Good (Then It Must Be)’. Assured and sumptuous, this is an album set to take Bridges out of the fringes and into the limelight.
