7digital What we said: Ever since Sean Paul-featuring ‘Come Over’ back on her glorious 2008 album Shine, fans have been clamouring for London-born, New York-based artist Estelle to release some more reggae. And so it is we find ourselves with Lovers Rock, an album of sweet songs with delicious bass, lush, reverby synths and those powerful vocals that flit between melodic melisma and low-key rap. And airhorns, obviously. Exploring the varied musical genres she grew up with in her Grenadian and Senegalese household, with an accompanying series of videos depicting her parents’ relationship, Lovers Rock is clearly rooted in the deeply personal for Estelle, and it’s an uplifting affair for it.
