7digital What we said: Having been famously tight-knit for the best part of two decades, Elbow underwent a shock line-up change in 2015 when drummer Richard Jupp departed the band. Conversely, their first record as a four-piece feels even more beat-centred than previous albums, featuring meaty rhythms propelling Guy Garvey’s misty-eyed reflections. More predictably, seven albums in the Bury boys are clearly playing to their strengths - and “warm and fuzzy” remains their forte - but there’s variety in the arrangements. From the skeletal, piano-driven ‘Montparnasse’ to anthemic, baroque-pop like ‘Magnificent (She Says)’, Little Fictions should keep loyal fans entertained.
